Policy
Licenses
• Each product license is a lifetime license with a renewable “Updates and Support” option (with license renewals available for purchase in one year, two year, and lifetime timeframes).
• Licenses are valid for use on a single server only.
• Licenses may be moved to a new server once in a 21-day period.
• Licenses cannot be transferred (sold, given away, traded, etc.) to another individual or company.
• Licenses require online validation, and so a server-side Internet connection is required in order to register and/or manage the product from within the server Dashboard application.
We reserve the right to deactivate any license that does not conform to this usage policy.
Updates and Support
Each product purchase includes free minor incremental updates (e.g. version 1.0 » version 1.1 » version 1.2, etc.), as well as free technical support (via the Support page), for up to one year from the original date of purchase. The continued receiving of minor incremental updates and/or technical support, after year one, requires the purchase of a license renewal (which renews the “Updates and Support” option on your product’s lifetime license).
License renewals can be purchased at a substantial discount (50% or more off the regular retail price) by simply visiting the Pricing page, choosing the appropriate license renewal edition for your licensed product (e.g. Student Edition, Starter Edition, Basic Edition, Standard Edition, Business Edition, Professional Edition, etc.), and entering in the User Name (licensee) from your existing license (e.g. “00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000” or “DisplayName (EmailAddress)“).
NOTE: If you are uncertain about the name, edition, or User Name (licensee) of your licensed product, simply open any of the product’s About dialog boxes in order to view that information.
Purchasing a license renewal is completely optional. If you opt not to purchase a license renewal, after year one, your currently installed version of the purchased software product will continue to operate normally for the foreseeable lifetime of *that* version (without any intentional reduction in functionality, without the showing of forced “nag screens”, time limits, etc.), but you will not be able to install any further minor incremental updates, nor receive any further technical support for the product.
NOTE: One cannot reasonably expect a specific product version, that is potentially many years old, to continue working flawlessly without ever being updated. We try hard to make it so that older versions of our products continue to function, but on rare occasions, changes made by either us, or by Microsoft, etc., may prevent older versions of our products from operating as expected (and hence will require that you install the latest version in order to resume normal product operation).
Minor incremental updates can include security updates, bug fixes, feature changes, feature enhancements/improvements, and even brand new features for the product. The purchase of a license renewal does not guarantee that additional minor incremental updates will be published within the valid timeframe of your license renewal. You may choose to purchase a license renewal for your product, at any time, based upon your current update and/or technical support needs. License renewals are available for purchase in one year, two year, and lifetime timeframes.
❗IMPORTANT NOTE: Support for Windows Server 2016, and hence for WSE RemoteApp and WSE WorkFolders, ends on January 12, 2027.
Higher Editions
Purchasers of our products can move up to higher editions of the same product (e.g. Student Edition » Starter Edition » Basic Edition » Standard Edition » Business Edition » Professional Edition, etc.) by simply paying the difference in price between what was paid for the originally purchased (lower) edition, and the current retail price of the (higher) edition they wish to move up to (i.e. the money paid for the lower edition applies in full towards the purchase price of the higher edition).
NOTE: If the “Updates and Support” option on the product’s license has lapsed, then you will need to purchase a license renewal before you can move up to a higher edition of the product. License renewals are available for purchase in one year, two year, and lifetime timeframes.
For further details, please contact us with the name and edition of your originally purchased software product (e.g. “WSE RemoteApp 2012 R2 (Basic Edition)“), as well as with the User Name (licensee) from the license that you were issued for the product (e.g. “00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000” or “DisplayName (EmailAddress)“).
NOTE: If you are uncertain about the name, edition, User Name (licensee), or “Updates and Support” expiration date of your licensed product, simply open any of the product’s About dialog boxes in order to view that information.
Once you have received your updated license information, simply re-register the product, and it will automatically move up to the higher edition. There is no need for you to uninstall/reinstall the product, and all of your published RemoteApp programs, settings, etc. will remain intact during the registration process.
Upgrades
All eligible license holders can upgrade among the different server editions within the same product family (e.g. WHS RemoteApp 2011 » WSE RemoteApp 2012 » WSE RemoteApp 2012 R2 » WSE RemoteApp 2016, etc.) at a 25% discount off the regular retail price.
To receive an upgrade coupon code, please contact us with the name and edition of your originally purchased software product (e.g. “WHS RemoteApp 2011 (Basic Edition)“), as well as with the User Name (licensee) from the license that you were issued for the product (e.g. “00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000” or “DisplayName (EmailAddress)“).
NOTE: If you are uncertain about the name, edition, or User Name (licensee) of your licensed product, simply open any of the product’s About dialog boxes in order to view that information.
Once you have received your upgrade coupon code, simply visit the Pricing page, choose your product, enter the coupon code at check out, and the discount will be automatically applied to your purchase.
Refunds and Exchanges
Refund or product exchange requests will be honored for up to 30 days from the original date of purchase (with no questions asked!). Refund requests will be processed by reversing the original PayPal transaction, and deactivating the license that was issued (so that it can no longer be used). Exchange requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and any difference in price will be refunded (or received) via PayPal.
WSEE Installer
We DO NOT SELL the WSEE Installer package (seeing as the “Essentials bits” it installs are not ours to sell, and since we DO NOT officially provide support for it). It is ONLY made available, at no additional charge, as a convenience (and thank you) to purchasers of our software products. If you would like to use the WSEE Installer, you may purchase one of our software products, and then contact us with the User Name from the license of your purchased software product and make a formal request for it. If you require a language other than English, please be sure to include that information with your request.
Please be aware that installing Windows Server Essentials Experience (WSEE) on any version of Windows Server other than Windows Server 2016 is NOT OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED by Microsoft (nor by us!), and so you should “proceed at your own risk“. You fully assume all risk, responsibility, and liability associated with the installation.
The WSEE Installer may be used to install WSEE on a single server only (i.e. it’s one WSEE installation per purchased software product). If you wish to use the WSEE Installer to install WSEE on multiple servers (for testing or migration purposes, for other clients, family members, friends, etc.), then each server installation MUST be associated with a unique licensee (i.e. User Name) from one of our software products.
You may use the WSEE Installer to (re)install WSEE as many times as needed/required on the exact same underlying server hardware footprint (RAM and hard disks do NOT count towards the footprint). For Virtual Machines (VMs)… So long as you keep the exact same VM configuration (which represents the underlying server hardware footprint), running on the exact same physical host, you may interchange the virtual hard disk image files (VHD, VHDX, etc.) within the existing virtual machine configuration as many times as needed/required (for backup purposes, etc.).
In the rare event of a hardware failure/upgrade (or when moving from a test to production server), you may make a (one-off) request for your WSEE Installer license to be reset in order for you to be able to perform another run of the WSEE Installer on the new/replacement server hardware.
❗IMPORTANT NOTE: Support for Windows Server 2016, and hence for the Windows Server Essentials Experience and the WSEE Installer, ends on January 12, 2027.
