Windows Server Essentials Experience Error Reports Emails

0

After the latest update to WSEE, I am no longer getting health reports emailed to me.  The error is: “Cannot send Email.”  “Cannot reach SMTP Server.  The remote name could not be resolved: ‘[the remote name is filled in here]'”.

I was wondering whether it was the update or did Microsoft change something in their Azure cloud that I need to adjust to.

Thanks!

Strange as I’m not able to replicate this one… The health report emails are being sent just fine for me over here (under 2019, 2022, and 2025). I suppose it’s possible that the Azure side of things had just gone down for a bit and was unreachable.

Have you tried opening the server Dashboard and manually generating a health report just to see if it gets emailed (i.e., click on the “Generate a Health Report” task over on the HOME -> Health Report sub-tab)?

If you’re still seeing the issue, then I’d try signing in to the Azure Portal and make sure that all of your settings there are still correct there (as per my tutorial).

Lastly, you could also try opening the Event Viewer applet on your server and see if there’s any error information getting logged under Windows Logs -> Application that might give you a clue as to what’s going on.

BTW, did you ever move your “free” Azure account over to (Basic) “Pay as you go” pricing? If not, then that could be the issue. I address that in one of the “NOTE” paragraphs of my tutorial.

Yes I did try generating a Health Report when the emails stopped coming and I did switch to Pay as you go months ago. I will check out the Azure Portal. I just thought I would check to make sure no one else was having an issue after the latest update of WSEE before I ventured into Azure. Thank you.

I started all over with a new outlook.com address. Followed your Azure instructions. Everything went perfectly. I had to disconnect WSEE email report from my old Microsoft address. But again everything went perfectly and all expected dialogs came up. I then generated a report and got the same error: “Cannot send Email.” “Cannot reach SMTP Server. The remote name could not be resolved: ‘[the remote name is filled in here]’”. I guess I should wait until after the holidays to see if this issue comes up for anyone else or if it self corrects.

The strange thing is that I received an email notification from Microsoft that I used the Mailer app today.

I did your latest WSEE update yesterday and the Health Report emails began again today.  So this was a Microsoft bug that was fixed when you integrated Microsoft’s latest update into your WSEE Installer.  One thing I don’t understand is why no one else had the problem.   In any case, the issue is resolved.

Strange seeing as nothing in the latest update should of affected the Health Report Outlook Mailer that I’m aware of. I’m glad to hear that it’s working again for you though. Thanks for letting me know.
