WSEEBackup of OneDrive Folder
I setup a W11 PC and user so their OneDrive folder was in D:\Data\OneDrive and all their data is synched to that folder. I then configured WSEE to backup the D: drive of that PC.
However, when I tested a restore the D:\Data\OneDrive folder was not visible in the backup.
Does anyone know why it was skipped and if there is any way to force it to be backed up? I would like additional protection beyone the usual OneDrive retention.

I’m not exactly sure on this one seeing as I’ve never tried doing something like that before. Typically, any documents within the OneDrive folder are already backed up to the cloud and so the OneDrive folder isn’t usually included in Windows backup.
That being said… Windows Backup may fail to back up the OneDrive folder because the files are generally stored in the cloud and not physically present on the local hard drive. This is due to the “Files On-Demand” feature in OneDrive, which only downloads files when they are accessed, and leaving only placeholders on the local device until such time as they are physically accessed. Since Windows Backup can only back up files that exist locally, it probably sees the OneDrive folder as empty, or non-existent, and skips it during the backup process.
The solution therefore may be to ensure that your OneDrive files are fully downloaded and stored locally on your server. This can be achieved by disabling the “Files On-Demand” feature in OneDrive settings. To do this, click the OneDrive icon in the system tray, go to Settings > Sync and backup > Advanced settings, and turn off the “Files On-Demand” option.
Once the files are present locally, Windows Backup should be able to include them in the backup process (I would think).

Thanks, I always switch off the “files on demand” so everything is on the local drive, but sadly the folder is being skipped.
I seem to recall a registry entry on the client that has a list of folders the backup client will skip and perhaps they now exclude anything called “OneDrive”?
Ironically it backs up my Google Drive and DropBox folders just fine…
