WSEE/Server 2022, Settings Crashes, VPN will not configure

0

Hello, my fellow WSEE folks,

I am performing my third or fourth installation with Server Standard 2022 with the WSEE installer. In this instance, I am replacing a Small Business Server 2011 (I know, I know) which I have done successfully in the past, with little resistance.

The WSEE has been installed, roles migrated, FSMO roles migrated, Exchange Server (separate server) migrated. I currently have the SBS2011 operating as a file & print server with the VPN RRAS server.

And this is where the issue lies. So, as I am sure most know, to run an Exchange Server with a single external IP, you have to setup a reverse proxy, so you issue a request for the certificate from Exchange with exportable set to true. I did all that, received the certificate, installed it on Exchange, exported to PFX, imported it into the WSEE… nothing functioned. I then realized the certificate has only been generated with “domain.com” without the “remote., mail., etc.” I then created a new request, got the certificate, verified it, installed it on Exchange, exported to PFX, went to install it on the WSEE and the dashboard crashes upon opening settings. I was finally able to get into it, somehow, and installed the new certificate. I deleted the old one from certificate store. I was able to setup RDG, but VPN will fail stating there’s an issue with the firewall (there’s not). I have tried all the ports, DMZ, without the firewall (no, not direct to the internet), and it fails. Now, the dashboard is crashing again when I open settings for no reason I can understand (even safe mode).

Do I need to release the domain and redo it? Do I need to perform a repair somehow on the Essentials? I have all the above configured, plus all the 20 PCs connected. I don’t want to have to redo all of that unless I absolutely have to.

Thanks

Wow! You’re way outta my league on this one I’m afraid. I wouldn’t even know where to being to tell you how to work out those issues. Best I can tell you would be to take a look at the “Logs” folder over on your Essentials server and see if one of the log files within that folder (such as Dashboard.log, etc.) give you an indication as to why the Dashboard is crashing, etc. You can find the Logs folder in the following location on the server:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs

Lastly, I’m not exactly sure if re-setting up the domain in Settings -> Anywhere Access (or even repairing it) would resolve the issues for you, but I assume that it’s worth a try.

Best of luck.
