Problem re-connecting client to WinServer 2022 Essentials
I thought that I had followed all your instructions for using the Connector:
- .NET Framework registry entries set for TLS 1.2
- Server DNS set to 127.0.0.1
- Server IP address fixed at 192.168.19.6
- Clients preferred DNS set to server IP address
- Registry entry set to skip domain join
- Uninstalled the Client Connector after each failed attempt to connect
The connector software does not accept my user name and password, and instead responds “You must be a domain administrator to connect this computer to the server.” The Connector stops at this point. What am I missing?
I am running Windows Server 2022 Standard and on this problematic client Windows 11 Pro version 24H2. I have four other Windows 11 Pro client computers properly connected to the Essentials server, and this problematic client had been connected until I moved it to a new location.

When connecting a client computer to the server using Microsoft’s SkipDomainJoin connection method, you must use the credentials of a domain administrator and not those of a standard (domain) user.
