Install apps on new WSS 2019 build before WSEE migration?
Hello. I’m upgrading from WSEE 2016 with a new install of WSS 2019 on new hardware. I installed WS 2019 eval on a VM hosted by Hyper-V 2019 Core, then converted that to a retail license Server Standard using instructions found on this site and elsewhere. I plan to use your WSEE migration tool to add a simple interface.
The current server uses Covecube Drivepool for software-based redundancy. I prefer it over storage spaces or other approaches because, in the case of hardware failure, the data can be recovered from a single drive with no additional tools. Also, all I have to do is install Drivepool, shut down the server, install the existing drives, and boot up. Drivepool will rebuild the pool structure automatically. (I already did that, once. It works.)
So, my question is, since I’m adding the Essentials Experience role with your utility, is it advisable to install drivepool before or after running it? I will do that with only the OS drive in place, then add the data drives back.

Sorry for the delay in responding (and I believe that we’ve already discussed some of this via a private email support conversation).
I’m afraid that I’m not familiar with that particular drive pool software (nor any of them for that matter), and so I don’t really know the correct answer there. I tend to lean towards installing apps on the server after WSEE has been installed and configured on it, and so that’s probably the route I’d go if possible.
Also, I was under the impression that a lot of the drive pool software packages out there have versions that are specific for use under Windows Server Essentials. If so, then that’s the version I’d use, and I’d contact the software manufacturer to ask them if the software should be installed before or after the WSEE server role has been installed on Windows Server 2016 Standard/Datacenter (as that’s basically what we’re doing here).
Good luck with your configuration.
