WSE RemoteApp and Office 365

Hi,

I’m currently evaluating WSE RemoteApp to run a MS Access based application.

I’ve installed MS 365 on the server and I’ve signed in with my account.
But when I try to run the RemoteApp, the remote instance asks me to sign in or for activation.

Thanks,
N

Alas, that has nothing whatsoever to do with WSE RemoteApp… That’s simply Microsoft Office/Microsoft Access asking you to sign in to your Microsoft account and/or activate the program. Once you’ve activated the program you will no longer see those prompts I’d imagine.

IMHO you’re probably better off just signing in to the server’s Desktop and then activating the program directly form there as an administrator. Once you’ve done that, then it should be activated for all of your standard users as well.

Thank you for your prompt response!

Strange enough, I’ve installed and activated Office on my admin account on the server before trying the RemoteApp.
Can you choose what Server-side user the RemoteApp launched as?

The RemoteApp program will always be run as the user that signed in to WSE RemoteApp. The only exception to that would be if you right-clicked on the program within the WSE RemoteApp Launcher window and then selected run as admin from the context menu that appears. I’m not exactly sure why Office/Access would be activated on your Essentials server when you sign in to the Desktop as an administrator but not when you sign in to WSE RemoteApp as a standard user seeing as I’ve never experienced such an issue before. Have you tried restarting the server just to see if that happens to shake things loose for you? Other than that, you might want to try starting a Remote Desktop connection to your server, but instead of signing in as an administrator, go ahead and sign in as a standard user (i.e. as the same standard user that you’re signing into WSE RemoteApp as). From there, run Access from the standard user’s server Desktop and see if that fixes the issue for you. Just note that WSE RemoteApp has a feature called “Shell Locker”, that’s enabled by default, and prevents standard users from signing in to their server Desktop (for security reasons). Thus, you’ll get prompted by Shell Locker to enter admin credentials before it allows the standard user to be able to see their server Desktop (of course you can disable Shell Locker if you wish, but I recommend that you keep it enabled).
