At Microsoft, we have Work Folders deployed for our internal users. I have worked closely with people from the IT group to investigate issues and learn about management operations which relate to Work Folders. One such operation is to recover data after an encryption key is revoked. Remote Web Access (Anywhere Access) must be properly configured with a domain name (e.g. YourDomainPrefix.remotewebaccess.com or YourDomainPrefix.YourCustomDomain.com), and a trusted SSL certificate must be associated with the domain name, in order to successfully use Work Folders. If it is determined that Remote Web Access has not been turned on and properly configured when enabling Work Folders, then you will be prompted to do so before you can continue.

When we introduced Work Folders in Windows Server 2012 R2, we included support for PCs running Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1. However, we knew that we needed to continue releasing support for other clients, and the number one request was to support the large number of enterprise deployments of Windows 7.

We heard the feedback and we are excited to announce that we have just released the packages of Work Folders for Windows 7 on the Download Center!

Work Folders is a Windows Server feature that allows individual employees to access their files securely from inside and outside the corporate environment. This app connects to it and enables file access on an Apple iPhone and iPad. Work Folders enables this while allowing the organization’s IT department to fully secure that data.
